Chapter 1: Dogblasted:

The Universal Solvent of Band Director Communication

Researchers have long observed that band directors rarely use profanity.

This is remarkable considering:

  • The weather
  • The trumpet section
  • The rehearsal schedule
  • The trumpet section
  • The weather
  • The drumline
  • The trumpet section
  • The weather
  • The trumpet section

Researchers initially suspected this list contained accidental duplication.

Further observation confirmed it did not.

Instead, many directors rely upon a single substitute word:

Dogblasted!

Researchers believe Dogblasted serves as a linguistic pressure-release valve, allowing the director to express every word they are currently thinking without actually saying any of them.

Scientific Definition

Dogblasted (adj., adv., noun, verb, exclamation)

A universal replacement for all profanity currently being suppressed by the director.
